ZINKWAZI BEACH ATTRACTIONS

Zinkwazi Beach is a quiet coastal village on the north coast of KwaZulu Natal where the warm Indian Ocean washes pristine beaches fringed with indigenous bush.

Tucked into a bay at the main swimming beach lies the placid Zinkwazi river lagoon – home of the Fish Eagle from which it derives its name. The river is a source of enjoyment for all ages – swimming, canoeing, birding and fishing.  Seated on the sand between lagoon and main swimming beach parents can gaze over the sand to watch family involved in boating on the river, while small children potter in the rock pools nearby and older chilcren swim in the surf. What other holiday destination can offer such a variety of  activities in such close proximity with convenience?……  And budget meals and drinks from the Ski boat club on the beach or pizza from Proud who will deliver your order to you on the sand ?

In the holiday season the local Ski Boat club on the beach is a popular social venue, where people gather on the deck to socialize and enjoy budget meals or a drink.

Proud’s Pizza is situated at the beach entrance and his Zinkwazi Special Pizza is highly recommended.  Proud delivers, even to you on the beach !

Another shady spot for tea or a light meal is the Zinkwazi Cafe on the corner of Nkwazi and Glen drive where essential items are stocked.   The Zinkwazi community protect the local fauna and flora.

A wealth of indigenous trees and shrubs provide food and shelter for a variety of creatures.  Early morning hikers report sightings of blue duiker and Mongoose.  At night bush pig, porcupine and owls are seen.

While summers can be very hot, our winters are short and mild. Swimming in the ocean is popular all year round.  Life guards are in attendance daily on our beaches.

ZINKWAZI BEACH SURROUNDS

To reach Zinkwazi Beach one takes the P403 off the N2 highway. This major highway leads south to King Shaka airport and a little further south is the popular Gateway shopping Mall at Umhlanga.  Umhlanga Rocks on the coast,  has a multitude of atrractions – mainly its beaches and upmarket restaurants. The nearest town to our village of Zinkwazi,  is bustling Stanger (now KwaDukuza) with its Indo African atmosphere and vibrant bazaars. Delicious take away Indian curry and Pakastani kebabs can be bought off the pavement.  The Indian Market is worth a visit too

Ballito is a mere 30 minutes drive south with excellent shopping in both Lifestyle Mall where one can find a hardware, a chemist, a supermarket and bottle store within a few meters.  Parking is free and close to all the shops.  Life style Spar will deliver orders to your door at  Zinkwazi for R35 – a giveaway !.  Place your order, pay eft and it will be delivered.

Interesting spots to visit within an hour’s drive are Dlinza Forest in Eshowe, where there is a canopy walk amongst huge ancient trees. Shakaland, near Eshowe, with its living museum, showcases our Zulu heritage

For a quiet day bird watching, we suggest Harold Johnson Game reserve, 15 minutes north of Zinkwazi where one can walk trails through dense bush. A popular activity is to take a skottle and braai under the trees after a taxing walk through the forest with friends

The National Parks of Umfolosi and Hlulhuwe  lie north of us, within 3 hours drive, St Lucia Wetlands park approximately 3.5 hours away.  Leave early from Zinkwazi and you can have breakfast at Umfolosi or Hulhulwe.  Hluhluwe offer a popular carvery on a Sunday and one needs to book for this
